Why write a book on multilingual education
"I decided to write this book because I found myself facing the exciting and daunting prospect of raising a child in a bilingual country. As if that wasn't enough, my partner is German and I am Italian, so our child will potentially speak four languages! With Spanish and Catalan being the dominant languages in the area we live in, and Italian and German being our native languages, my partner and I knew we had a challenging but rewarding journey ahead of us.
When I began my search for resources on multilingual education for children, I was surprised to find that there wasn't much information available. Most of the material I came across focused on bilingual education, with little attention given to multilingualism. Furthermore, many of the resources were written by experts in the field, rather than parents with direct experience. While I appreciated the benefits and tips offered by these experts, I was hungry for more personal and relatable stories from parents who had navigated the challenges of raising children proficiently in more than one language.
While delving deeper into my research, I realized that there were many parents like me who were searching for guidance on raising children fluent in multiple languages, but were struggling to find the information they needed. That's when I decided to write this book, drawing on my own experiences and those of other multilingual parents, to offer a more personal and practical guide.
As a writer, teacher, and communication expert, I am passionate about the study of multilingual education for children. Thus, giving my child the gift of several languages not only excited me, but also presented an opportunity to utilize my communication and education expertise to assist other parents facing similar challenges.
I hope that this book will provide a valuable resource for parents who, like me, want to give their children the gift of multilingualism, but are unsure of how to navigate the challenges that come with it."
