Una sardina è un pesce argentato che vive nel mare e è molto piccolo, lungo circa 10-15 centimetri. Le sardine sono pescate in grandi quantità per essere utilizzate come alimento umano, in particolare per la produzione di conserve alimentari. Sono buone da mangiare perché contengono proteine, vitamine e minerali importanti per crescere sani e forti.

Il nome deriva dalla Sardegna, l'isola italiana situata nel Mediterraneo sotto la Corsica, dove le sardine erano particolarmente abbondanti e venivano pescate in grandi quantità.
